The management of Dangote Groups has said one of its trucks was not responsible for the accident that claimed no fewer than 19 lives along the Okene-Lokoja bypass in Kogi State on Sunday.
According to The PUNCH, the Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Groups, Tony Chiejina.
Dangote spokesman in a statement on Monday said the company’s truck was not involved.
Chiejina said, “From various background checks from our Transport and Logistics Unit, the truck in question belonged to a third party who was using it for his cement business. It does not belong to Dangote Cement.”
He stressed that Dangote Cement has put several measures in place to curb the incidents of road accidents among which are frequent and regular training for drivers, constant checks, and maintenance of trucks among others.
The spokesperson, who expressed sadness over the incident, however, condoled with the families of the victims.
It would be recalled that the Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson, Jonas Agwu, had in a statement on Sunday, said, “The crash investigation report revealed that the crash involved two vehicles: a Dangote truck bearing the following registration details NSH680YJ, and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KMC455ZE.
