The Osun State Internal Revenue Service is set to intensify its efforts against businesses that have neglected their tax responsibilities.
According to The PUNCH, the Information Officer for OIRS, Oluwaseun Ayeni, announced this development in a statement released on Saturday
Ayeni explained that the agency’s chairman, Mr. Adesola Adewumi, issued a stern warning during an awareness campaign held in Osogbo, the state capital.
Adewumi, represented by Mr. Deji Atoyebi, the Director of Legal and Enforcement for OIRS, emphasized that the state government will start sealing off business premises that have failed to settle their tax dues by Monday.
He urged all businesses with outstanding taxes to make the necessary payments before the enforcement action begins.
Adewumi highlighted that this move comes after the OIRS Board’s decision to enforce tax compliance due to persistent defaults.
The statewide crackdown, originally scheduled to commence in May, aims to hold businesses accountable for their tax obligations.
“All tax-defaulting businesses in the state are advised to act promptly to avoid any disruptions that may result from the enforcement measures,” Adewumi said. “Businesses have already received harmonized demand notices and are urged to comply before the state proceeds with closures to address the defaulters.”
This action underscores the OIRS’s commitment to ensuring that all businesses meet their tax obligations and contribute to the state’s revenue.
