Osun police warn against cultism day celebration
Osun State Police Command has warned cultists in the state to discard the planned cultism day in the state, saying the command is monitoring their activities.
The warning was made known in a statement by the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola in Osogbo on Thursday.
According to the police, the warning was also extended to hoteliers and proprietors of recreation centres and landlords not to allow their facilities to be used for any cult-related activities, adding that any facility found disregarding this warning, the owners would be made to face the wrath of law.
The Spokesperson said the police have intelligence that cultists in the state have scheduled Friday, July 7, 2023 as Cultism Day.
It also revealed that it has information of infiltration into the state of some unscrupulous elements from other states for the same purpose.
“In view of this, the command therefore warns cultists and other unscrupulous elements in the state to jettison the plan or any of such action(s) forthwith as the command is earnestly monitoring their activities.
“Consequently, the Command in collaboration with other security agents and Civilian JTF will not tolerate any unlawful gathering or assembly that will endanger the peaceful atmosphere of the state, as the plan to mark 7/7 may lead to blood shedding and destruction of properties,” it said.
Opalola equally stressed that the Commissioner of Police has given marching orders to the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical units to be at alert and nip in the bud any act capable of undermining the peace of the state.
“The CP advises parents and guardians to caution their wards to be law abiding, and desist from any act or unlawful gathering/assembly before, during and beyond the said date, as the Command will arrest and prosecute defaulters.
“The CP advised the good people of the state to go about their legitimate businesses while the Command has taken necessary security measures to forestall any likely breakdown of law and order.
“Finally, the citizens are urged to be security conscious, vigilant, co-operate and collaborate with the security agents by giving useful, credible and timely information and report any suspicious movement or activities of cultists and other criminals through these numbers: 08039537995, 08123823981, 08075872433 and 08067788119,” the statement concluded.
