Prominent political and religious figures have visited the residence of the late leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, to pay their respects following his passing at the age of 96.
Among those who visited the family home were former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
Others included former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel; Labour Party’s Lagos governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi.
Rhodes-Vivour, in a post on X.com, described Pa Adebanjo as “a principled man who embodied the ideals of equity, justice, and true federalism.”
He added, “Pa Adebanjo lived a full life and was always excited to share his values, vision, and ideology with the next generation. We celebrate a life of impact, a life lived to the fullest.”
Pa Adebanjo, a respected elder statesman and vocal advocate for restructuring, passed away on Friday at his residence in Lekki, Lagos State.
In addition to the dignitaries who visited his home, notable personalities and organizations have also expressed their condolences. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, have all mourned his passing.
Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Middle Belt Forum also paid tribute to the late Afenifere leader, acknowledging his contributions to national development and advocacy for justice.
