Ondo State Police Command has said it is probing the alleged abduction of travellers along between Ikere Ekiti and Iju axis of the State on Thursday.
The victims were reportedly travelling in two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and a white Highlander, when they were abducted and taken into the bush around Iju.
A video circulating online showed a bullet-riddled vehicle with its side mirror destroyed by gunfire.
The vehicle was discovered with a woman’s bag inside.
The footage depicts the aftermath of an apparent attack on the vehicle, with visible bullet holes and damage to the side mirror.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami, could not confirm if it was a case of kidnapping but stated that police personnel had been deployed to comb the area.
She said, “The men of the anti-kidnapping squad have been deployed. We are doing everything possible to ensure that the victims are rescued.
“Our policemen got information that there was an abandoned vehicle, and so when we look at the vehicle, there were gunshots in the vehicle.
“That is why we had to quickly deploy the anti-kidnapping squad. It could be a case of suspected kidnapping.
“The circumstances surrounding is not clear. We suspect that it might be a case of kidnapping and our men are already there in that area.”
She assured the public that the state Police command would soon unravel the details of the incident.
