A man, Funmilayo Asojo, has been remanded by the Ondo State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, for allegedly killing a peacemaker, Bamiduro Adewole, with a stone.
According to The PUNCH, Adewole, was stoned to death while trying to resolve a fight between Asojo and the man who owed him N700.
The event was said to have occurred on the December 28, 2022, at Ute town, in the Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The defendant is accused of hitting the 59-year-old security guard at a public elementary school in the head with a stone.
He was taken to the hospital, but he died two days later.
The accused was charged with murder on a single count.
The Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37, Vol. II, Laws of Ondo State, 2006, sections 319 and 355 are violated, according to the prosecution.
The police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, requested that the defendant be held at Olokuta Custodial Center until the outcome of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions’ advice.
In his decision, Magistrate R.O. Yakubu mandated the defendant’s continued detention in jail and postponed the case’s mention to March 19, 2023.
