Social media influencer, Reno Omokri, has called for sanction of soldiers who appeared in a viral video to berate Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for arresting his colleague who took one way on the highway.
Omokri made this call on X, formerly Twitter handle on Saturday, noting that if nothing is done to the soldiers Nigeria may return to post-January 15, 1966 coup.
Describing the video as distasteful and disrespectful, the Delta-born lawyer said the the soldier must be militarily dealt with to serve as a deterrent to others who are watching and observing.
He noted that the rude videos were not only targeted at Sanwo-Olu but are also an insult to the Nigeria’s constitution.
Omokri expressed worries that the men with access to weapons who could not control their mouths, will not be able to control their weapons.
He wrote, “If nothing is done to the soldiers who recorded and published videos disrespecting the constituted authority of the Governor of Lagos over his arrest order on a soldier riding his motorcycle against traffic, there is a very clear and present danger that Nigeria May return to the post-January 15, 1966 era, which witnessed a breakdown in discipline, and resultant erosion of the chain of command in the military.
“Their irreverent videos were not targeted at just Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu. They are also an affront to the Constitution.
“That video was distasteful and disrespectful and ought not to be ignored. The young man involved has to be militarily dealt with to serve as an example to others who are watching and observing. If no sanctions are applied to him, we will start seeing more and more of such unruly behaviours until Pandora’s Box is opened. And in a nation of over 200 million people, that is a nightmarish scenario nobody will benefit from. Men with access to weapons must be able to control their mouths, or they will not be able to control their weapons.”
A soldier had slammed Sanwo-Olu, for ordering the arrest of his colleague alongside three other motorcyclists for driving against traffic on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The soldier whose identity is yet unknown appeared to be defending his colleague in a viral video on Thursday, strongly knocking the Governor for calling a soldier ‘useless’ in the presence of ‘bastard civilians’.
Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, ordered the arrest of a soldier and three other motorcyclists for driving against traffic on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
In a viral video, Sanwo-Olu was seen ordering his men to put one of the motorcyclists who claimed to be a soldier into the vehicle, stating that he was going to lock him up.
The soldier reacted to the arrest of his colleague who he believed he had done nothing to have deserved an arrest, adding that the state governor had no right to arrest a soldier, especially in front of his barracks.
