Iconic Nigeria footballer, JayJay Okocha, has spoken in defense of his nephew, Super Eagles player, Alex Iwobi, who has been subjected to intense cyberbullying after Nigeria lost their Africa Cup of Nations final match to Cote D’ivoire.
Host country, Cote D’ivoire defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the 2023 AFCON final on Sunday night.
Iwobi faced fierce criticism as some Nigerians claimed that the Fulham’s midfielder did not live up to the billings.
Reacting, Jay Jay took to his Instagram page, urging Nigerians to treat people the way they want to be treated by others.
He noted that it was only in his country that can only hate and see nothing good in others.
‘’I pray for my country Nigeria and the people that can only hate and see nothing good in others, when effort counts for nothing, treat people the way you want them to treat you,all we have is this life is each other, we love you @alexanderiwobi and we keep going no matter what they say, the lord is good all the time and we trust that his will be done in our lives amen”, Okocha wrote.
Okocha played 73 games for Nigeria and scored 14 goals.
Jay-Jay, an attacking midfielder is considered among the best footballers Africa has produced.
He played for Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bolton Wanderers, among others.
