The Ogun State Government is set to recruit an additional 1,000 teachers to address the shortage of educators in public primary, secondary, and technical schools across the state.
According to The PUNCH, the recruitment drive is being managed by the State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, in collaboration with the Teaching Service Commission, the State Universal Basic Education Board, and the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board.
The initiative, part of the Ogun State Teaching Experience Acquisition Channel is designed to address existing gaps in the teaching workforce.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, applicants are expected to hold a minimum qualification of a National Certificate in Education or a relevant Bachelor’s degree such as B.A., B.Sc., or B.Ed., with at least a Second Class Lower grade.
“Applicants with degrees in fields other than education must have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from an accredited institution,” Prof. Arigbabu stated.
Those applying to teach in technical colleges must have qualifications such as a B.Sc. in Technical Education, B.Sc. in Engineering, or an HND in Engineering-related disciplines.
Interested candidates are required to apply via the state’s job portal at www.teach.ogunstate.gov.ng between October 16 and November 6, 2024.
The TEACH interns will be deployed to Local Government Areas where their services are needed most.
They will receive a monthly stipend for two years, after which they will be evaluated based on their expertise, punctuality, dedication to duty, and willingness to work in any assigned location.
This recruitment marks the final batch of 5,000 TEACH interns pledged by Governor Dapo Abiodun, with many of the previous 4,000 interns having already been offered permanent positions.
Prof. Arigbabu emphasized the importance of the initiative, noting, “This program not only addresses the shortage of teachers in our schools but also offers young graduates an opportunity to gain hands-on teaching experience while contributing to the educational development of Ogun State.”
