Four men suspected to be armed robbers in the Oke-Sokori axis of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital reportedly carted away two Ghana-Must-Go bags filled with dollars.
According to a report by Daily Post, the suspects were said to be heavily armed with rifles.
An eyewitness has it that the armed men masked their faces and the operation did not exceed three minutes.
The suspects were said to have escaped the scene with the money stacked in the ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags after ambushing the car of their victim, a Northern trader in a Toyota Venza, marked, ABC 565 GN.
The operation occurred around 3:45 pm and they accosted the man in front of Fatgbems filling station at Oke-Sokori, where they stopped him and forcefully opened the car’s boot.
“They offloaded the two bags containing the foreign currency into their car and zoomed off with the victim’s car key,” a source identified as Oyefemi, recounted.
Report has it that the victim had earlier approached a commercial bank to deposit the money, but he was turned back on the premise that the bank had closed for the day.
The Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying the police were already on the trail of the armed men.
The police spokesperson assured that the suspects will be tracked down as a signal has been sent across the state to ensure that they are arrested.
