A 49-year-old man, Ganiyu Shina, has been arrested by the men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly bathing with blood at a community river in Kotopo, in the Odeda Local Government Area of the state.
According to The PUNCH, the suspect was apprehended on Thursday on 4, Oguji Street, Obantoko, Abeokuta.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was apprehended after members of the community spotted him at the riverbank, where he had parked his Nissan commercial vehicle, emerged with a local sponge and a container filled with blood, and began bathing with it.
He said, “Immediately he discovered that some people were watching him, he took to his heels, but was chased and apprehended by members of the community
“A call was made to the police at the Aregbe divisional headquarters by a member of the community, and the DPO, SP Bunmi Asogbon, quickly led a patrol team to the scene, from where the suspect was brought to the station.
“On interrogation, the suspect claimed to have a spiritual problem, and that a herbalist instructed him to perform the ritual.
“He claimed further that the blood in his possession was not human blood, but that of cow.”
Oyeyemi, on the other hand, stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the remaining blood be taken for laboratory analysis to determine whether it was human or not.
