The Ogun State Government has confirmed the arrest of Ashafa Afelaja, a private school headmaster in Eyin Ogbe, Igode, near Ogijo, over allegations of sexually assaulting a female pupil.
Afelaja was taken into custody after a concerned citizen reported the incident to state authorities.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, assuring the public that the government was committed to securing justice.
“Our rescue team intervened in Adamo, Ikorodu, a border community, after receiving reports of a school headmaster physically assaulting a young female pupil. The suspect is now in police custody, while we continue to support the rescued child and her mother with the necessary attention and care,” Adeleye said.
She further assured that the victim was receiving medical care and psychological support, adding that the ministry remained dedicated to protecting survivors of abuse.
“The Ministry will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to ensure swift and decisive action against perpetrators. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any cases of child abuse, domestic violence, or human maltreatment,” she added.
In a related development, the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs rescued a four-year-old boy who had suffered severe abuse at the hands of his father in Igboko, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
According to Adeleye, the child has been placed under the ministry’s protective care, where he is receiving medical attention and emotional support.
“The alleged perpetrator is currently in police custody, with all necessary legal arrangements underway to ensure justice is served. The child is stable and responding well to treatment, with further tests being conducted to monitor his recovery,” she stated.
Adeleye urged the public to support the Dapo Abiodun-led administration in its efforts to combat gender-based violence, child abuse, and other forms of domestic maltreatment.
