Yet-to-be-identified gunmen on Saturday raided an RCCG parish in Ogun State, killing the pastor and kidnapping seven congregants.
The incident has been confirmed by the Ogun State So-Safe Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo.
Ganzallo, stated thathis officers rescued the seven church members and killed one of the kidnappers during a rescue operation.
He also revealed that the incident occurred at about 12 am on Saturday, July 1.
Ganzallo said “the special operation team of the Corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command, under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, received a distress call that some of the members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area were attacked during a vigil; seven members of the church were kidnapped and the pastor killed.”
According to him, officers of the Corps were tasked with pursuing the culprits and rescuing the victims unharmed, and “the officers swung into action immediately.”
Ganzallo went on to say that the corps’ efforts paid off, as “the seven victims were rescued unharmed, while one of the kidnappers was killed and many of the suspects sustained serious injury during a fire exchange.”
He also stated that a joint police-So-Safe Corps squad was pursuing the fleeing suspected kidnappers in order to apprehend them alive.
