A 25-year-old man identified as Lekan Adewale, was on Tuesday sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State for breaking into a house to steal a cellphone and other items valued at N386,000.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the prosecutor charged the convict, whose address was not provided, with stealing, burglary and conspiracy, after he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, O. O. Okiki, said the prosecution counsel had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Adewale was guilty of the charge preferred against him.
Okiki sentenced the convict to 12 months’ imprisonment without any option of fine.
The Prosecutor, Inspector E. O. Adaraloye, had earlier informed the court that the convict and others still at large, committed the offences on June 9, at about 1.35 a.m. at Adefarasin, Ilogbo area, Ota.
Adaraloye explained that the convict and his accomplices conspired to break into the house of one Adeniyi Oluwatosin, to steal an Infinix hot 12 Smartphone, LG Television and other items valued at N386,000.
The offences, according to him, contravened Sections 411,415 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
