The Ogun State House of Assembly has announced its intention to address the recurring disruptions to the academic calendar at the state-owned Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta.
The decision comes in response to recent strikes by the institution’s teaching and non-teaching staff who were demanding unpaid salaries.
As reported by The PUNCH, the students of MAPOLY had also staged protests, voicing their concerns over the increase in admission acceptance fees, which jumped from N35,000 to N50,500, as well as delays in the release of their examination results.
During a plenary session on Wednesday, the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology, Yusuf Amosun, presented a comprehensive report addressing the recurrent disruptions to the academic calendar at MAPOLY.
Following a deliberation on the matter, the Assembly has resolved to conduct a public hearing to examine the issues affecting the institution and to safeguard the students from unnecessary delays caused by strikes.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, confirmed that the Assembly would seek input from MAPOLY’s Governing Board, management, staff, and students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation and work towards resolving the disruptions.
