After being put on hold in 2011 due to the Boko Haram conflict, the National Youth Service Corps has resumed orientation camp in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, for the first time in 13 years.
At a temporary orientation camp in the state capital, where Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 corps members were sworn in, NYSC State Coordinator Mohammed Adamu thanked Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for helping to bring back the orientation course.
The corps members are encamped at the Arabic Teachers College, which is acting as a temporary orientation camp. A military, police, civil defence, and civilian combined taskforce has been put in place to provide strict security.
The 629 males and 496 female members of the corps are ready to take the oath of office.
Zulum, for his part, expressed happiness that the orientation camp was returning to the state, saying that the action represented the state’s restoration to peace and security following years of conflict.
He instructed NYSC representatives to find graduates of science, medical, and paramedical programmes for potential state government employment.
