Chippa United’s goalkeeper coach, Sean Louw, has confirmed that Stanley Nwabali, the Super Eagles’ shot-stopper, will not be returning to the club.
Nwabali’s status with the South African side has been in flux since his standout performances for Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations earlier in 2024.
Despite losing the AFCON final to the hosts Ivory Coast, Nwabali was instrumental in Chippa United’s journey to the Nedbank Cup semi-final, achieving 12 clean sheets across all competitions.
His stellar form has sparked interest from several clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, Al Ettifaq, and QPR.
The regular South African Premier League season concluded two weeks ago, and although Nwabali still has two years remaining on his contract, his future at Chippa United seems unlikely.
Louw has now stated his belief that the 27-year-old will not be part of the team next season.
“On physical hard copy paper, I don’t know how many offers he has received, but verbally, he has around 10 or even 12 offers. He is definitely not coming back to Chippa next season,” Louw shared with FarPost.
Louw also noted Nwabali’s significant improvement since joining Chippa United, particularly in his footwork, which was initially a weak point.
