The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic tanker explosion that occurred on Wednesday in Majiya, located in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
In a heartfelt statement, the union lamented the catastrophic loss of over one hundred lives, the widespread destruction of property, and the numerous injuries sustained in this devastating incident.

NUPENG, represented by its President, Prince Williams Akporeha, and General Secretary, Afolabi Olawole, extended their deepest condolences to the families, friends, and communities impacted by the tragic accident.
“The leadership and entire members of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers express our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and communities affected by the tragic petroleum tanker accident in Majiya, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State,” they stated.
The union expressed its heartbreak over the loss of “over one hundred precious lives,” emphasizing the severe impact on the local population and the urgent need for support.
They acknowledged the destruction of properties and the injuries sustained by many others, stating, “We are profoundly saddened by the loss of over one hundred precious lives, the destruction of properties, and the injuries sustained by many others in this devastating incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones during this highly traumatic and difficult time.”
In a show of solidarity, NUPENG reached out to the affected families and the entire Majiya community, as well as the broader Jigawa State.

“We urge all relevant authorities to provide the necessary support and medical care to those injured and to take measures to prevent such tragedies in the future,” the union appealed.
