The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company staff’s reported abuse by some Corps members is being looked into, according to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
This was said in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by the Director of Public Affairs for the NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu.
Odumosu stated that the management of the Corps has information that several employees of the PHED, Rumuola in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, had allegedly been harassed by members of the NSCDC, Rivers State Command.
He claimed that Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC Commandant General, had ordered a thorough inquiry to properly punish any officers found to be at fault.
“The police were not sent to threaten or physically harm anyone; they were sent to PHED to inquire about the strange power outage that the Command suffered for days.
“According to the information I have, there must have been a misunderstanding between the two parties that wasn’t possibly resolved appropriately.
“Nonetheless, a committee has been formed to investigate what happened, and the CG stated that when the time was right, the problem will be handled properly.”
If proven guilty, Audi expressed disappointment in his men’s behavior and pledged to investigate the situation thoroughly. He also reiterated the Command’s commitment to cooperating effectively with all significant state stakeholders.
He claimed that because the corps has long since offered corporate security cover, the PHED is still a crucial partner for the corps in the state.
He said that the corps is committed to safeguarding all vital facilities and infrastructure, including oil pipelines, telephone lines, electrical power plants, railroads, roadways, and educational institutions.
Nonetheless, the CG issued a warning to the command’s officers and members, urging them to uphold the corps’ golden rule “Humility and Integrity in Service Delivery” in the performance of their duties at all times.
