The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad has successfully intercepted a long caravan truck equipped with an in-built tank, fully loaded with stolen crude oil, following an intelligence tip-off in Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Monday, the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, CSC Afolabi Babawale, revealed that the truck was seized while in transit near the Eleme Flyover in Elelewon, Port Harcourt.
The CG’S SIS operatives acted swiftly to impound the vehicle.
Providing further details, the CG’S SIS Commander, Commandant AS Dandaura, disclosed that upon receiving the intelligence, his team was promptly dispatched to the location.
On arrival, they seized a red-head navy blue container truck bearing registration number AGL574XY. The truck, which had ten tyres, was fully loaded with stolen crude oil, illicitly siphoned from vandalized wellheads and destroyed pipelines.
According to Commandant Dandaura, the individuals operating the truck abandoned it and fled the scene as security personnel closed in on them.
He confirmed that the vehicle and its contents had been confiscated, and an investigation was underway to track down the syndicate responsible for the act of economic sabotage.
“For the records, the exhibits recovered at the point of arrest are: a red-head and navy blue container with 10 tyres (Reg. No. AGL574XY) and an estimated content of about 70,000 litres of stolen crude.
“Hence, upon the expiration of a thorough investigation, the NSCDC would file for forfeiture of the mode of conveyance and the contents at a court of competent jurisdiction. Thereafter, the proceeds would be remitted to the Proceeds of Crime Account (POCA),” he stated.
Reaffirming the Squad’s commitment to combating oil theft, the CG’S SIS Commander assured that all suspects involved in the crime would be identified and prosecuted following a comprehensive investigation.
