The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps successfully thwarted a robbery attempt along the Iwo-Ibadan road and recovered a stolen vehicle after engaging a gang of armed robbers in the Onibu-Eja community.
This was disclosed by the NSCDC Osun State Commandant, Mr. Michael Adaralewa, in a statement issued on Sunday by Kehinde Adeleke, the Public Relations Officer and Assistant Superintendent of Corps.
The statement mentioned that the incident occurred at around 3:25 a.m., when a group of four armed robbers stormed a residence in the Onibu-Eja area, stealing a family’s vehicle at gunpoint.
Adaralewa explained, “Immediately after the gang fled, community members promptly alerted the NSCDC state command for assistance.”
Officers on patrol were quickly dispatched and encountered the robbers, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire.
The assailants, unable to withstand the NSCDC’s superior firepower, abandoned the stolen vehicle and escaped into the night.
The vehicle recovered by the NSCDC is a Toyota Corolla, bearing the chassis number 1NXBU40E49Z005008 and the Abuja registration number KWL911TC.
It has been placed in the custody of the Osun Command, where it will remain pending further investigation. Adaralewa added that a “discreet investigation is underway to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.”
The Commandant praised his officers for their quick response and courage in preventing the robbery, noting that the prompt action of the community was instrumental in their success.
He also commended the residents for providing timely information, which allowed the NSCDC to act swiftly.
In his closing remarks, Adaralewa reiterated the Corps’ commitment to protecting citizens and warned criminals that they would be dealt with decisively if they failed to reform, saying, “NSCDC would continue to justify the trust placed in it by the public.”
He further cautioned that those with criminal tendencies must either turn a new leaf or face the law’s full consequences.
