The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a 24-year-old mason, Adedapo Ayobami, for burglary and theft.
The arrest was confirmed by the Osun NSCDC State Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, in a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde, on Wednesday.
The command noted that Ayobami was apprehended on the afternoon of Thursday, May 23, 2024, while NSCDC personnel were patrolling the Osunjela area of Osogbo.
He is accused of breaking into a house in Osunjela and stealing various items, including a Plasma television, ten cooking pots, two frying pans, two cable decoders, a solar panel with bulbs, curtains, and other household goods.
Commandant Adaralewa stated that Ayobami’s actions violated Section 411 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act.
The statement read, “In his confessional statement, the suspect who resides at number 13, Oja Oba, Osogbo, Osun said, before the owner of the house died, he was a herbalist and he gave him traditional soap to improve his financial status.
“According to him, he would be collecting the traditional soap on a monthly basis. He went to the herbalist’s house to collect the soap for the month of May, on getting there, he was told the herbalist had died and he went home disappointed.
“The following day Thursday, 23rd of May, he went to the herbalist’s house, checked where he used to keep his key while alive, opened the door and carted away Plasma television, cooking utensils, Solar Panel, bulbs, two different cable decoders and other household items.
“The suspect, Adedapo Ayobami disclosed that he intended to sell the stolen items to unsuspecting members of the public.”
Adaralewa noted that investigations revealed that although residents of the neighborhood saw Ayobami with the stolen items, no one confronted him.
He urged the public to be vigilant and security-conscious, encouraging them to question suspicious activities and report unusual movements in their area to security agencies for immediate action.
