The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ekiti State has apprehended 14 individuals on suspicion of involvement in crimes.
The suspects were arrested in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, following a series of operations by the command’s Counter-Terrorism, Intelligence, Investigation, and Financial Crime Units.
According to The PUNCH, NSCDC State Commandant, Mr. Paul Sosina, revealed that the arrests came after receiving several complaints from the public, particularly business owners and point of sale operators, who reported cases of funds mysteriously disappearing from their accounts.
In a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Tolulope Afolabi, Sosina explained, “The suspects were arrested after a thorough investigation linked them to coordinated criminal activities. These activities include cyber fraud and obtaining money under false pretences through sophisticated digital platforms.”
He added that exhibits recovered from the suspects included mobile phones, motorcycles, jewellery, and key bunches. The suspects have since been handed over to the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further investigation.
Sosina emphasized that the command would not tolerate any form of corruption within its ranks. “We are committed to restoring the integrity of the NSCDC in Ekiti by firmly rejecting any attempts by suspects or their families to offer bribes,” he said, warning that anyone caught trying to bribe officers would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The commandant assured the public that efforts are ongoing to bring those responsible for such economic crimes to justice and to prevent further victimization of innocent citizens.
