The National Population Commission has officially launched the Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey for the years 2023-2024 in19 out of the 23 local government areas of Benue State.
According to Daily Trust, the survey, which aims to collect vital demographic and health data, will be conducted until April 2024.
Federal Commissioner of NPC representing Benue State, Kupchi Patricia Iyanya, during a briefing in Makurdi to officially launch the exercise, said that the survey will cover all enumerated areas, with a target of interviewing at least 45 households in each participating LGA.
Nege Christopher Tarkumbur, the NPC State Director, represented the Federal Commissioner and further explained that the survey will be conducted in the following19 LGAs: Makurdi, Gboko, Logo, Ukum, Katsina Ala, Ushongo, Vandeikya, Buruku, Konshisha, Kwande, Gwer East, Guma, Oju, Obi, Ogbadibo, Okpokwu, Otukpo, Apa, and Ado.
Iyanya emphasized that the NPC, in collaboration with key partners, has been diligently implementing the NDHS for over three decades, consistently raising the standards for demographic and health data collection in Nigeria.
“The objectives of the 2023-24 NDHS are clear and profound: to gather high-quality data on a wide range of vital indicators, including fertility rates, maternal and child health, contraceptive use, childhood mortality, gender-related issues, nutrition, HIV/AIDS awareness, and more,” she said.
The survey is expected to provide valuable insights into the demographic and health landscape of Benue State, enabling policymakers and stakeholders to make informed decisions and implement targeted interventions to improve the well-being of the population.
