The plea bargain application of Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, batter known as Evans, a convicted kidnap kingpin, faced a setback as legal advice was unavailable for the hearing.
Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, sought a plea bargain before a Lagos High Court on charges related to conspiracy, kidnapping, and attempted murder.
However, the prosecution sought a further date, citing the need for advice from the plea bargain committee.
Meanwhile, the third defendant’s counsel expressed readiness for trial. The case was adjourned until October 17 for further proceedings. Justice Akintoye, who was handling the trial at Igbosere part of the High Court, before it was burnt during the October 2020 #Endsars saga, is presiding over the case.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants kidnapped Mr. James Uduji and collected a ransom of 1.2 million US Dollars, and attempted to murder another victim, Mr. Donatus Nwoye.
