The National Emergency Management Agency, southwest zone says no casualty was recorded in the building collapse that occured at Sango police barracks, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Southwest Zonal coordinator, NEMA, Mr Saheed Akiode disclosed this while giving update on the incident said two buildings were affected.
Mr Akiode said the 2 storey building collapse affected a total of 28 flats and Over 168 persons were displaced.
“The NEMA South West Zonal Office received a distress alert at about 6.00pm on Saturday 22nd April,2023 of a collapsed building at Nigeria Police Barrack block 11,Sango, Ibadan.
“The agency as usual, speedily activated all response agencies to quickly respond to the situation, we sited a lot of lapses in the building, I think it’s an old building and the exact causes of the collapse is that it is an old building.
“And then because of a lack of innovation or restructuring on constant basis to keep the building normal level of standard. There was a neglect of the building and it has been showing some signs.so the people there we were able to evacuate them, virtually everybody was evacuated.
“We thank God, no life was lost.we are able to move away 3vehicles, 2motorcycles were also recovered, I think because of the volume of the pressure, about four generating sets were there too
“The appropriate authority should be taking neccesary measures now to really see how those debris are fully evacuated.
“About 168 people were displaced, we have a room and parlour, and 28 rooms affected.
“Nobody died and nobody was injured, except those properties I said were seriously damaged.
He called on those in charge of the barracks needs to renovate the place to avoid re occurrence.
