The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited has commenced the lifting of Premium Motor Spirit commonly referred to as petrol, from the Dangote Refinery, marking a significant development in the country’s oil distribution sector.
Over the weekend, the first batch of petrol was loaded onto more than 100 trucks that arrived at the refinery, situated in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.
This was confirmed in a video shared on the Dangote Group’s verified X page on Sunday.
Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and a member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products, Zacch Adedeji previously announced the NNPCL’s role in this operation.
During a briefing in Abuja on Friday, Adedeji explained, “The NNPCL remains the sole buyer of petrol from the Dangote refinery,” reinforcing the company’s exclusive position in the distribution of petrol across Nigeria.
He also disclosed that the NNPCL would start purchasing crude oil from the Dangote refinery in Naira as of October 1, while other refined products such as diesel would be available to independent off-takers.
