The Nigerian Labour Congress, has on Wednesday implored aggrieved parties in the recently concluded presidential and national assembly elections to move their issues to the court.
BusinessDay reported that President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, made this statements during a visit to the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria office in Lagos. National executives of the congress were also present.
In the event that they believe the election process was not open, free, and fair, Ajaero said losers of the poll have the right to complain or seek remedy in court.
This publication recalls that the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmoud Yakubu, on Wednesday morning, announced Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the presidential election.
Meanwhile, closely competing political parties like the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party did not accept the outcome. They claimed that the election was rigged.
According to the parties, the election was manipulated in favour of Tinubu.
In addition, INEC and its Chairman have been criticised by some Nigerians for disregarding the Electoral Act 2022 that requires the upload of results real-time from polling units using the IReV.
Ajaero stated “The elections have come and gone. If you ask me, the courts are there for people to take their grievances. People can equally protest if they don’t like what is happening, they can adopt any legal measure.”
He, however commended the Labour Party for their performance in the just concluded elections.
He said, “The Labour Party candidates have performed creditably; they have come up to be the voice of the masses in the national assembly.
