Nine persons have been reportedly killed after a powerful explosion ripped through a warehouse in Southern Thailand.
It was also gathered that close a 100 persons were reportedly injured in the explosion.
Welding during building construction is suspected to have caused the explosion at Sungai Kolok, Narathiwat, a region on the country’s western border.
“A warehouse storing firecrackers in Sungai Kolok exploded this afternoon, the latest number is nine dead and 115 injured,” Narathiwat governor Sanan Pongaksorn told AFP.
“The fire is now under control. Preliminary investigation suggests the cause is a technical error during the steel welding process, as the building is under construction.”
A large area around the facility was destroyed in the explosion. Local news broadcasts showed a gigantic column of smoke billowing into the sky and extensive damage to buildings, residences, and automobiles, including fires and blown-off roofs.
