At least nine people lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Katsina State on Sunday morning.
The Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Aliyu Ma’aji, confirmed the incident, stating that it involved a single vehicle, a Hummer bus carrying 20 passengers.
“Nine passengers died on the spot, while 11 others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment,” Ma’aji said.
Preliminary findings indicated that the crash was caused by excessive speeding and loss of control. The FRSC commander urged motorists to prioritize safety on the roads, especially during festive periods, cautioning against speeding, overloading, and reckless driving.
“Despite the state government’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure, reckless driving remains a major cause of fatal accidents in Katsina,” he added.
