The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps has arrested nine people for engaging in open defecation in the Berger area.
This was announced by the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post on X.com on Saturday.
“Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night,” Wahab stated in his post, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to curb unsanitary practices.
This recent arrest comes just days after Wahab reported that 17 people had been detained on Thursday night in the same area for similar offences, including open urination, defecation, and failing to use the pedestrian bridge.
The Lagos State government’s crackdown on open defecation is part of a broader campaign to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.
In addition, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has begun cleaning the median of the Ojodu-Berger highway to further discourage the practice of open defecation and promote environmental sustainability.
