The Nigerian trio of Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Oluchi Ochonogor have successfully advanced to the final of the women’s Long Jump event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Brume secured her spot with a final leap of 6.76m, while Usoro’s impressive 6.68m and Ochonogor’s 6.65m jumps ensured their places among the top 12 competitors.
Brume, who holds the titles of Nigerian, African, and Commonwealth long jump champion, is on a quest to become the first Nigerian track and field athlete to win two individual medals.
Having earned medals in nearly all competitions where she has represented Nigeria, Brume aims to continue her winning streak at the Paris Olympics.
Usoro and Ochonogor, both making their Olympic debuts, are determined to make a strong impact in the final event at Stade de France.
The Women’s Long Jump is one of the few events where Nigeria has historically excelled, winning medals of all colors.
Chioma Ajunwa claimed a historic gold at the Atlanta 1996 Games, followed by Blessing Okagbare’s silver at the Beijing 2008 Games.
Brume, aiming for another medal in Paris, completed the set with a bronze at the Tokyo Games.
