Super Eagles midfielder, Raphael Onyedika, has won the Player of the Month at his Belgian club Club Brugge.
Onyedika’s stellar performance in April included scoring three crucial goals in the Champions Play-off as Club Brugge pushes for the First Division A title.
The 23-year-old showcased his talent by scoring twice against Anderlecht on Matchday 2 and then adding another goal in the following game against Antwerp.
Apart from his scoring prowess, Onyedika has been a consistent performer for Brugge throughout the regular season and the playoffs, further establishing his importance to the team.
Born in April 2002, Onyedika, like many African youngsters, started his football journey playing in the streets before being scouted and joining FC Ebeide, owned by Churchill Oliseh, brother of former Nigerian international Sunday Oliseh.
FC Ebeide has produced notable players like Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu, the Nwakaeme brothers, Dickson and Tony, Frank Onyeka, Obafemi Martins, and Stephen Makinwa.
His time at Ebeide caught the attention of Scandinavian clubs, leading to a move to Danish side FC Midtjylland. There, he won the Danish Cup in the 21/22 season and attracted interest from several clubs before joining Club Brugge.
Since his arrival, Onyedika has become a key figure in Club Brugge’s midfield, displaying versatility, tough tackling, and a knack for scoring goals.
His impressive performances earned him the Player of the Month award for April, adding to his growing list of accolades.
Onyedika’s impact hasn’t gone unnoticed, with reports linking him to English Premier League sides Crystal Palace and West Ham.
Despite the speculation, Onyedika remains focused on his current challenges, including the upcoming UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final against Fiorentina.
Having participated in Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign and recent friendly matches, Onyedika is a vital asset for the Super Eagles as they prepare for crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
With his midfield mastery, Nigerian fans can be confident in Onyedika’s ability to help secure their team’s World Cup qualification. Despite earning seven caps for Nigeria, he is yet to score for his country since his debut in 2022 against Algeria in an international friendly.
