The state minister for defence,Bello Mattawalle, has declared that the federal government would soon arm the armed forces with cutting-edge gear so they could combat banditry and the insurgency of Boko Haram.
Speaking to reporters in his hometown,Maradun, the minister stated that the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria, Kaduna, has already received instructions from the Federal Government to start producing military hardware and equipment.
“President Bola Tinubu has just signed a bill to that effect,” he added, adding that the industry would completely change to comply with international norms.
Matawalle went on to say that the company will produce all the hardware and weaponry required by the military to combat all types of criminal activity in the nation once it was fully operational, as instructed by the President.
Matawalle announced that the Defence Headquarters would soon embark on a tour of all theater commands across the nation to assess their operational needs for enhanced service delivery.
He urged security agencies to reciprocate the government’s efforts by devising strategic plans to combat and ultimately halt insurgency and banditry.
“Let me use this medium to call on the security agencies to reciprocate the government’s gesture by becoming more alive to their responsibilities in the fight against all forms of criminalities.
“I am calling on members of the general public to please assist the security personnel with useful information that will help in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities,” he said.
