Nigerian cyclist Sekinat Taiwo has set a new Guinness World Record, surpassing the 250-kilometre goal by cycling an impressive 347 kilometres on a closed circuit at the National Theatre in Lagos State.
The achievement was made in the category of the longest distance covered by an electric auto-rickshaw in 12 hours, powered by Teak EV’s advanced lithium-ion battery technology.
The record was officially recognized by Guinness World Records adjudicator Carl Saville.
In a statement released on Monday, the Chief Executive Officer of Qoray Mobility and Energies Limited, Olabanjo Alimi, highlighted the significance of the feat for both Nigeria and the global movement toward sustainable transport.
He said, “This is not just a record for Qoray – it’s a milestone for Nigeria and the global transition to sustainable transport that African innovation is both competitive and transformative.”
Alimi continued, “This achievement lays the foundation for clean, accessible, and efficient transportation driven by solutions that come from the heart of Africa.”
The record-breaking moment was made possible through a collaboration with key partners, with the National Theatre playing a pivotal role by offering its venue for extensive mock tests and ultimately hosting the record attempt.
Alimi further emphasized the importance of Taiwo’s performance, stating, “Sekinat Taiwo, whose endurance and skill brought this record to life, embodies determination and possibility. Her remarkable achievement sends a clear message: African solutions, powered by innovation, can rival the best on the global stage.”
The CEO stressed that, “This record-breaking feat is more than an achievement for Qoray Mobility—it promises a cleaner, greener, and brilliantly innovative future.”
