Nigerian billionaire Dozy Mmobuosi is close to taking ownership of English Championship side, Sheffield United in a transaction valued at £90 million.
According to Complete Sports, following the unsuccessful takeover attempt of Arsenal by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Africa, a few years ago, this will be the second instance of a notable Nigerian being associated with the acquisition of a football club in England.
This season, the Blades are vying for promotion back to the Premier League, although a transfer embargo was imposed last month due to financial issues.
Their woes, however, are supposedly set to be alleviated by an acquisition by Mmobuosi, a Nigerian digital entrepreneur whose company Tingo is valued at approximately £7 billion.
According to the Times, Mmobuosi is currently subject to the EFL’s owners’ and directors’ examination, but no difficulties have been identified.
It was also gathered that Mmobuosi, advocates technological advancement and social uplift in Africa and beyond.
Also, he has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Master of Science degree in Economics from Ambrose Alli University.
He designed and launched Nigeria’s first SMS Banking Solution called ‘Flashmecash’, which was later sold to the First City Monument Bank, according to Examinerlive.
