The Nigerian military has retained its 35th position in the global military ranking in 2022 and the third best in the continent.
The ranking, which was done by Global Fire Power ranked the Nigeria Armed Forces 35 out of 142 countries considered for the annual ranking in the previous year, according to The PUNCH.
Nigeria is said to have a ‘PwrIndx’ score of 0.5745 (a score of 0.0000 is considered ‘perfect’). Nations are assessed based on individual and collective values processed through its in-house formula which are used to generate ‘PwrIndx’ score.
According to the ‘Pwrlndx’ ranking, Egypt, with a score of 0.1869 ranks first in Africa and 12th in the world, while, Algeria ranks second in Africa and 31st in the world with a PwrIndx score of 0.4724.
The Global Fire Power put the total population of the Nigerian military at 219,463,862, ranked sixth in the world.
The organization’s analysis reveals, the available manpower is 116,315,847; fit-for-service, 83,835,195; total military personnel, 215,000; active personnel, 135,000; reserve personnel 0 and paramilitary, 80,000.
Nigeria was said to have a total of 140 aircraft, 14 interceptors, 15 attack helicopters, 26 trainers aircraft, and six special mission aircraft among others.
On land, the Nigerian military is said to have 376 tanks, 2,019 armoured vehicles; 44 self-propelled artillery; 349 towed artillery; mine warfare, two; and 47 rocket projectors.
It said while the Nigerian Navy had a total of 133 assets, one frigate, and 109 patrol vessels, the military arm, however, had no aircraft and helicopter carriers, destroyers, corvettes, and submarines.
