The Nigeria Football Federation has officially appointed Aliyu Zubairu as the new Head Coach of the U20 national team, the Flying Eagles.
This decision comes following the recommendation by the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee, reflecting the Federation’s confidence in Zubairu’s capabilities to lead the young squad.
Zubairu’s appointment is a significant step forward, especially considering his recent success with El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
Inder his leadership, the team secured a notable victory in the President Federation Cup, defeating Abia Warriors FC in Lagos just this past June.
This triumph has undoubtedly boosted his profile, making him a suitable choice to steer the Flying Eagles.
Taking on this new role, Zubairu is tasked with an immediate and critical responsibility of assembling and preparing a formidable team for the upcoming WAFU B U20 Championship.
This regional tournament, which will be held in Togo between October and November, is crucial as it serves as the qualifier for next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
Success in this championship would not only enhance the team’s standing but also secure their spot on the continental stage.
The NFF’s decision underscores the importance they place on the development of the nation’s youth football talent.
With Zubairu at the helm, the Federation is optimistic that the Flying Eagles will perform exceptionally well, building on their past successes and setting new standards in youth football.
As preparations for the WAFU B U20 Championship get underway, all eyes will be on Zubairu to see how he molds the team and leads them through this critical phase.
His experience, recent achievements, and now his role with the Flying Eagles mark the beginning of what could be a transformative period for Nigerian youth football.
