A tragic incident occurred in Lagos State’s Ikorodu area, where 30-year-old Motunrayo Olaniyi allegedly stabbed his 25-year-old wife, Olajumoke, to death following a heated argument.
According to Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, “A distress call was received on October 4 at Ikorodu Division that a newly wedded couple… allegedly engaged in a domestic scuffle in their room.”
During the altercation, Olaniyi reportedly stabbed Olajumoke multiple times, locked her in the room, and set it on fire. He also inflicted wounds on himself.
Police responded promptly, extinguished the fire, and found Olajumoke’s lifeless body with abdominal wounds.
Olaniyi was rescued, treated, and discharged from a nearby hospital before being taken into police custody.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect stabbed his wife during the altercation and inflicted minor wounds on himself,” Hundeyin stated.
The corpse has been deposited at Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for autopsy, and investigation is ongoing.
“This is a devastating incident, and we urge anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help immediately,” Hundeyin added.
The case is currently under investigation.
