New naira: First Bank, others extend work days, sticks to Jan 31 deadline
Nigerian financial institution, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, has announced that it would be extending its official working days to Saturday and Sunday to receive cash from Nigerians ahead of the old naira deadline.
It would be recalled that the Central Bank of Nigeria has scheduled January 31st as the deadline for the phasing out of the old N1,000, N500 and N200 notes respectively.
First Bank Plc, in a post through its social media platforms on Friday explained that its workers would be available on Saturday and Sunday to receive the old naira notes from Nigerians.
“This is to notify the public that all our branches will be open on Saturday and Sunday just to receive cash.
All old Naira notes of series 200, 500, and 1000 will cease to be in use from the 31st of January.”
Also Access Bank through a post on its social media platforms posted, “We’re here for you!
You can still deposit your old set of ₦200, ₦500 and ₦1000 notes with us on Saturday & Sunday just in case you haven’t
“Or visit any of our trusted Access Closa agents to deposit, do it while you still have the chance to, make that money no spoil for your hand!
Walk into any access Bank branch today & through this weekend and make your deposits!”.
While Guarantee Trust Bank on Friday afternoon posted, “Kindly be reminded that by Tuesday, January 31st, 2023, the former Naira series of N200, N500, and N1000 notes will no longer be recognized as legal tender.
“Save time! Avoid the last-minute rush by depositing your old Naira notes.
“Our branches will be open on Saturday January 28 and Sunday January 29, 2023 from 10.00am to 3.00pm to receive your cash deposits only.”
Similarly, Zenith Bank Plc, revealed that the bank would be accepting old naira cash between 9am and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
