Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a strong rebuke on Saturday against French President Emmanuel Macron, following Macron’s call for a cessation of arms supplies to Israel amid its ongoing military actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
In a statement from his office, Netanyahu expressed his discontent with Western leaders who he believes should support Israel during this critical time.
“As Israel fights the forces of barbarism led by Iran, all civilised countries should be standing firmly by Israel’s side. Yet, President Macron and other Western leaders are now calling for arms embargoes against Israel. Shame on them,” Netanyahu declared.
The Israeli leader emphasized that the nation is engaged in a multifaceted conflict against groups that are supported by Iran, Israel’s long-standing adversary.
He pointed out the hypocrisy of those advocating for an arms embargo against Israel while Iran continues to supply weaponry to its proxies.
“Is Iran imposing an arms embargo on Hezbollah, on the Huthis, on Hamas and on its other proxies? Of course not,” he stated, referring to the three militant organizations that receive backing from Tehran and are considered part of its “axis of resistance” against Israel.
Netanyahu further lamented the stance of nations that oppose the “axis of terror” while simultaneously calling for Israel to be disarmed. “What a disgrace!” he added.
Despite the calls for an embargo, Netanyahu remained resolute about Israel’s ability to prevail in the conflict, asserting, “But their shame will continue long after the war is won.”
He concluded his remarks with a determined promise: “Rest assured, Israel will fight until the battle is won – for our sake and for the sake of peace and security in the world.”
