107 stranded Nigerians from Tripoli, Libya have been received by the National Emergency Management Agency.
The returnees, comprising 48 adult females (including 3 medical cases), 5 female children, and 1 infant female, as well as 49 adult males, 3 male children, and 1 male infant, arrived aboard Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday at about 3:45 pm.
The Director General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, represented by the Chief Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Aziz Afunku, received the returnees on arrival.
According to him, the total number of assisted voluntary returnees so far brought in five flights through the Murtala Muhammad International Airport is now 690.
He further explained that in February, 105 stranded Nigerians were repatriated, and an additional 281 were assisted back to the country in March.
Since April 2023, a total of 259 stranded Nigerians have so far been assisted back into the country.
The International Organisation for Migration, with the support of international partners, has been helping distressed Nigerians stranded in Libya return to the country since 2017.
The recent return of the 107 Nigerians brings some relief to their families and friends and highlights the ongoing efforts to bring stranded Nigerians back home.
