The Kaduna State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has announced the seizure of 1,045.93 kilograms of various illicit drugs and the arrest of 420 suspects during its third-quarter operations.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the State Commander, Samaila Danmalam, confirmed the development on Thursday.
He disclosed that among those arrested were 404 males and 16 females involved in drug trafficking, dealing, and consumption.
Danmalam said, “These arrests represent individuals involved in different levels of the drug trade, including users, dealers, and traffickers.”
The NDLEA commander further detailed the array of drugs seized, including cocaine, cannabis sativa, rohypnol, tramadol, methamphetamine, and other psychotropic substances. Together, the confiscated drugs weighed a total of 1,045.93 kilograms.
In addition to the drug busts, Danmalam stated, “We also intercepted 1,393 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and confiscated four locally made firearms during the operations.”
He reported that 30 offenders have been convicted, while 54 others are currently facing charges, with investigations ongoing for several additional cases.
As part of its broader efforts to reduce drug demand, the Kaduna Command has carried out several public sensitization and awareness campaigns.
“Our non-kinetic approach involved counseling 50 drug users and rehabilitating another 50 who have since been reintegrated into society,” Danmalam added.
The commander called for continued public cooperation, emphasizing the importance of timely information in combating drug trafficking. He stated, “We are committed to intensifying our efforts to curb drug-related activities, and we urge residents to provide timely and useful information for quicker response.”
Last month, the agency intercepted a shipment of cocaine and pharmaceutical opioids concealed within sanitary pads, highlighting the creative tactics traffickers use.
