Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command made an arrest, apprehending an individual who claimed to be a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency official.
The suspect, identified as Kelechi Chukwumeeije, was apprehended at Cement Bus stop, Dopemu, by a team of detectives led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Sunday.
Chukwumeeije was found in possession of 4 kg of the illegal substance known as Marsh-Mallow at the time of his arrest.
During preliminary investigations, Chukwumeeije admitted his affiliation with the NDLEA, claiming to be attached to the agency’s office at the first gate of Tin-Can Island in Lagos.
He also revealed that a superior within the organization had allegedly provided him with the illicit substance.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and stated that the command is currently working to establish contact with the NDLEA in order to verify the suspect’s claimed affiliation with the agency.
Further investigations are underway to determine the accuracy of the suspect’s statements and uncover any potential links to organized drug trafficking.
