The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted an attempt to smuggle cocaine concealed in prayer beads and locally made shoes, targeting the Holy Land.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed the interception on Sunday through a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he also shared images of the seized contraband.
“In this holy month, when people are dedicating themselves to prayers and seeking divine intervention, some individuals were instead focused on smuggling cocaine in religious items and footwear,” Babafemi stated.
He condemned the act, noting that those involved sought to “desecrate the precincts of the Holy Land in this sacred period,” but were successfully intercepted by NDLEA officers.
The agency assured the public that investigations are ongoing to uncover further details about the illicit operation.
