The Nigerian Navy has intercepted a locally constructed wooden boat transporting 1,400 litres of illegally refined petroleum products in Agadagba, located in the Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Acting on credible intelligence from maritime security sources, operatives from the Quick Response Team at Agadagba Naval Outpost, under the Forward Operating Base Igbokoda, successfully carried out the operation.
The illicit cargo, stored in 44 jerry cans, was confiscated during the raid.
The Base Operations Officer of FOB Igbokoda, Lieutenant Commander A.D. Morgan, who led the team, confirmed the success of the mission, emphasizing the role of intelligence in the operation.
In response to the development, Commander of the Forward Operating Base Igbokoda, Navy Captain Aliyu Usman, issued a stern warning to those engaged in illegal activities.
He stated, “Perpetrators of economic sabotage and other criminal activities should desist immediately.”
Reaffirming the Navy’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain, he added, “The Nigerian Navy remains committed to securing the maritime environment and eliminating illegal operations.”
Usman further explained that the confiscated wooden boat and its illicit contents would be handled and neutralized in accordance with established directives from the Defence Headquarters.
“This operation serves as a strong warning to all criminal elements that the Nigerian Navy will not relent in its efforts to combat all forms of illegal activities and protect critical national assets,” he declared.
Meanwhile, the Navy extended its appreciation to Tantita Security Services and Gallery Security Services for providing swift and reliable intelligence that facilitated the operation.
