Youths of Nasarawa State on Thursday opted out of the ongoing nationwide protests against the country’s economic hardship.
According to The PUNCH, the key roads, including Makurdi/Jos and Shandam, leading to Government House, Lafia, were largely deserted. Security personnel were visible at strategic points to prevent any potential unrest.
Within the Lafia metropolis, residents were observed conducting their daily activities without harassment. Key areas such as UAC, Kwandere, and Makurdi roads were notably peaceful, with market vendors and other locals going about their business undisturbed by security forces.
Reports indicate that the peaceful atmosphere extends across all 13 local government areas of the state, with no incidents of violence or property damage.
However, some shop owners chose to close their businesses, likely out of concern for possible attacks by protesters.
Commissioner of Police Umar Nadada was seen patrolling the state capital alongside other security agencies to ensure order and the protection of citizens’ rights.
The presence of security forces was also noted around the Lafia Correctional Centre to preempt any potential disturbances.
Furthermore, roadside black market fuel vendors were noticeably absent, having vacated their usual spots.
The Commissioner of Police has issued a warning to potential troublemakers to avoid the state, emphasizing the protection of peaceful protesters.
Residents Ibrahim Isa and Daniel Emmanuel, in interviews, called on both federal and state governments to urgently address the economic challenges facing the nation.
