The Chairman of the Economy and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, has disclosed that the proposed naira redesign have helped increased the numbers of governors on their watchlist.
The EFCC boss stated this while briefing journalists at the State House after meeting with the President, Major Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) on Thursday.
He however declined to say the number of governors currently under their radar, neither did he reveal their identities.
He went on to say that the anti-corruption organization is happy with the redesign of the naira note and that the Central Bank of Nigeria will be able to control more money in the system, which will make it possible for more people to borrow.
He said, “Our agency is pleased with the redesign of the naira note, because the policy would help the Central Bank of Nigeria control the monies in the system and by extension, enable more money for people to borrow.
“It is my belief (as a student of economics) that the redesigning of the Naira will cause the value of the dollar currently at 890 to crash to 200 naira.
On the sting operations to the Bureau De Change operators, he affirms that the operation was successful and huge recoveries were made.
Bawa again urged Nigerians to embrace the new policy, while also encouraging citizens to take advantage of the whistle-blower policy.
