Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that palliatives would be provided to vulnerable residents that are mostly affected by the impact of the naira and fuel scarcity.
Punch reported that Sanwo-Olu said this on Saturday in a live conference that was set up about the current naira crisis and its resultant adverse impact across the country.
The Governor during this conference noted it was necessary to address residents of the state amid the hardship brought by the naira redesign policy, while he urged the people to remain calm.
He said, “First, let me thank the good people of Lagos for your patience and unwavering perseverance even in these challenging times.
“This is a heartfelt call to you, as your Governor, to please remain calm at this time, and avoid all forms of violence, arson and rioting. Even in the face of the difficulties and frustrations being faced by all, violence and destruction should not and will never be the answer.”
According to the governors, his government is putting in efforts to ensure that vulnerable Lagosians are given food packs so as to ease the impact of the hardship on them.
He said, “We have also since commenced the distribution of food packs, to the most vulnerable citizens, the people most impacted by this disruption in the supply of cash.
“We will continue to highlight more vulnerable groups within our distribution channels who would benefit from the palliatives.”
According to The Punch, Sanwo-Olu talked about the possibilities of hiking the cost of transportation over the naira crunch.
He, however, said his government has begun discussing with private transport operators to check high transport costs by considering the situation at hand.
