The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control announced on Sunday that it had shut down Globod Table Water in Delta State for allegedly facilitating the production, sale, and promotion of unregistered and unsafe “miracle water” under the guise of a fake NAFDAC registration number.
According to The PUNCH, NAFDAC explained that the factory located at Km 4 DSC Expressway, Otokutu, Delta State, was involved in the distribution of this miracle water in collaboration with Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, a religious group led by Prophet Jeremiah Omoto.
In a statement released by NAFDAC’s Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency confirmed that none of the products sold or promoted by the ministry had been registered.
Adeyeye stated, “NAFDAC wishes to alert the public to the activities of a faith-based organisation – Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries – that uses NAFDAC’s name to deceive the unsuspecting public.”
NAFDAC had recently been flooded with complaints from citizens regarding Senior Prophet Jeremiah Omoto and his ministry’s promotion of miracle water and soap, claiming miraculous healing properties, including curing barrenness.
The products were purportedly endorsed by NAFDAC, leading many to seek verification from the agency.
“The minister showcased the use of miracle water and miracle soap on social media to heal barrenness. He claimed that the women would carry twins if they used the soap. He openly told his congregation that the soap is NAFDAC registered. Thus, the public began to visit the office to confirm the claims,” Adeyeye continued.
Several products associated with the ministry were submitted to NAFDAC for verification, including Miracle & Healing Water, River Jordan Water, and the Water of Life, among others. These products were falsely advertised with miracle claims.
In response to the complaints, NAFDAC initiated an investigation through its Delta State office.
The agency’s state coordinator purchased the miracle water for N3,000 at the ministry’s premises and captured photographic evidence.
When the coordinator visited the ministry to follow up, officials denied producing or selling miracle products despite the evidence presented.
Further attempts to investigate the ministry were met with non-cooperation. NAFDAC issued invitations to the ministry’s officials, which were ignored, with the ministry opting instead to send legal documents and request extensions for reporting to NAFDAC.
In a document submitted to the agency, Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries disclosed that they had entered into a production agreement with Globod Table Water without informing NAFDAC’s Delta office. This act was deemed illegal under the relevant production regulations.
As a result of the findings, NAFDAC sealed the Globod Table Water factory for its involvement in the illegal production and sale of the miracle water.
“At this point, it is very clear that Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, KM 5, is not ready to present itself for investigation of production and advertisement of suspected falsified, unwholesome, and unregistered Miracle products,” NAFDAC stated.
The public has been advised to refrain from purchasing any miracle products associated with the ministry, as none have been approved by the agency.
Prof. Adeyeye assured Nigerians that NAFDAC remains committed to safeguarding public health and will continue its investigation into the matter.
